چکیده

We consider a classical dilute particle system in a large box with pairinteraction given by a Lennard-Jones-type potential. The inverse temperature is picked proportionally to the logarithm of the particle density. We identify the free energy per particle in terms of a variational formula and show that this formula exhibits a cascade of phase transitions as the temperature parameter ranges from zero to infinity. Loosely speaking, the particle system separates into spatially distant components in such a way that within each phase all components are of the same size, which is the larger the lower the temperature. The main tool in our proof is a new large deviation principle for sparse point configurations. MSC 2000. Primary 82B21 Secondary 60F10; 60K35; 82B31; 82B05; 82B26.

The Modified Lennard-Jones and Devonshire Equation of State

Lennard-Jones-Devonshire equation of state is an old but theoretical based EOS. The concept of the nearest neighboring molecules or coordination number is proposed to be a function of temperature and volume, whereas it is a constant in the original. The dilute gas and hard sphere limits of molecules are employed to determine this function. Improvement of this modification is demonstrated by pro...

Lennard-Jones Energy Parameter for Pure Fluids from Scaled Particle Theory

By considering the fact that the surface tension of a real fluid arises from a combination of both repulsive and attractive forces between molecules, a new expression for the interfacial tension has been derived from scaled particle theory (SPT)  based on the work of cavity formation and the interaction energy between molecules. At the critical temperature, the interfacial tension between c...

NUMERICAL SIMULATIONS OF THE PHASE TRANSITIONS IN CLUSTERS

We have studied the phase transitions in atomic clusters by molecular dynamics simulation, assuming Lennard-Jones interatomic pair potential. Calculations are performed by DAP parallel computer. The results are analyzed by simulating their orientational distribution plots (dot-plot), and neutron diffraction patterns. It is shown that all the main features of the bulk phase transitions are e...

Liquid Vapor Phase Transitions for Systems with Finite-Range Interactions

An outstanding problem in equilibrium statistical mechanics is to derive rigorously the existence of a liquid vapor phase transition in a continuum particle system. While such transitions are observed in all types of macroscopic systems there is at present no proof from first principles of their existence in particles interacting with any kind of reasonable potential, say Lennard Jones or hard ...

Diffusive Dynamicsof Binary Lennard-Jones Liquid in the Presence of Gold Nanoparticle: A Mode Coupling Theory Analysis

Molecular dynamics simulation has been performed to analyze the effect of the presence of gold nanoparticle on dynamics of Kob-Anderson binary Lennard-Jones (BLJ) mixture upon supercooling within the framework of the mode coupling theory of the dynamic glass transition. The presence of gold nanoparticle has a direct effect on the liquid structure and causes the peaks of the radial distribution ...
